Established by Cherry Hill voters in 1993, the Board of Fire Commissioners for Fire District 13, Cherry Hill Township, is the governing elected body charged with providing fire protection for the citizens of Cherry Hill.
Our Fire Commissioners have set very high goals for the Cherry Hill Fire Department based on the premise that the citizens of Cherry Hill are our customers, and therefore deserve the best fire protection available. The main areas of focus are protection, prevention and education.
Each year, over 3500 American citizens lose their lives to fire. Eighty-two percent of these fatalities occur in residential homes. Cherry Hill Township is made up primarily of residential homes, a place where one becomes accustomed to feeling a sense of safety and security.
Consequently, our Fire Commissioners are committed to educating the citizens of Cherry Hill with methods of preventing these unfortunate incidents. They recently expanded the effort in this area by appointing a Director of this critical mission and created the Community Education Unit. The Board is optimistic the efforts put forth by this Unit will have a positive effect in preventing tragedies in Cherry Hill.
Our Fire Marshal's Office, responsible for Fire Prevention, conducts nearly 9,000 inspections, site reviews, and fire investigations each year. Yet, regardless of our prevention measures, fires continue to occur within our community. The Board of Fire Commissioners is committed to providing our community with an educated and experienced Fire Prevention division to ensure protection and guidance of the highest caliber.
The Board also realizes firefighting is one of the most dangerous occupations one could ever choose. In addition, the nature of the work, the long shifts as well as periods of highly demanding and arduous work all take their toll. Accordingly, the Board is equally committed to ensuring that our firefighters have the proper training and equipment that they need to perform these duties. The Board takes great pride in knowing the Cherry Hill Fire Department is recognized throughout this state, and nationally, as a leader in fire emergency services.

The Board of Fire Commissioners provides these services to the residents of Cherry Hill with a close examination and control of costs. Since consolidation of 15 years ago, they have developed a first-rate public safety organization. With the support and guidance of Cherry Hill's residents, the Board has developed an entity that is responsive to the community's needs. Knowing they do not do this alone, the Board makes every effort to recognize the men and women of the Cherry Hill Fire Department. They fervently believe the true measure of the success of our Department is linked to the performance, commitment and enthusiasm of all its members.
The Board welcomes you to our Website and encourages you to view all its various pages and links with the hope it might provide some fire prevention strategy and make a real difference to anyone who visits.
